Is it just me or is PRESTO's service slipping?

Mrs. PG and I came into some money we weren't expecting. One of the first things I did was put an order for £180 with items spread over three release dates. Everything that was in stock came immediately however items that were slated for 3rd of May still haven't arrived. Items that were slated for today's date, (the 10th), which normally would have been posted the day before release in order to arrive ON the release date are still unposted.

Since there were two items that were due for release next week, (the 17th), it would seem that my remaining items will be posted once these have arrived. This falls far below the service I've received in the past.

Has anyone else had a reduced level from PRESTO?

Possibly. Perhaps MDT's disappearance has removed one of its biggest competitors. I used MDT more than Presto in the last year or so (often significantly cheaper), but have now returned to Presto. The CDs which were available came immediately, but I'm still waiting for others. Responses to emails, which used to be immediate (often from someone called Dave), now take longer and seem to come from a variety of people. Perhaps they've got too big; I notice that the mail order department now operates from some warehouse on the edge of Leamington, rather than from their town centre shop.

Wonder if the problem lies more with company release dates not being kept? I popped into Foyles in London on Wednesday with the intention of picking up Belohlavek's Asrael Symphony (Decca, release date, April 26) and Mirga's Weinberg disc (DG, release date, May 3). To my surprise neither were there, nor was there any sign that they had been there. I gave up and will get them from Amazon.

It's frustrating that bricks and mortar shops (where they exist) haven't got what you want when there should be every reason for them to hold new releases in stock.

I suppose that's possible but all the discs I've ordered are all marked as 'in stock' so there really shouldn't be any delay. I wonder if they are simply trying to save money on postage. Postage used to be first class but now it's second which means that if a disc is released on a Friday and it's posted on a Friday then it won't arrive until the Monday or even Tuesday by which time the weekend has passed.

Ok, it's definitely a 'first world' problem but it's still a drop in what has been an excellent service.

I do love receiving a CD on the day of its release.

I was thinking of going over or using Presto in conjunction with Amazon. This doesn’t bode well.

I have had the usual excellent service from Presto within the last two weeks.

Not sure about Presto's service slipping, but they've just sent me an online voucher and "let me know" that they haven't seen me use their store for a while. Is this a sign of desperation?

More like Catching up with other online retailers in a competitive world I’d say.
