Another new Kathleen Ferrier record from Somm

There is a new Bach record which includes some performances well known with Jacques and his orchestra but also a 1950 performance from the International Bach Festival of Bach's Magnificat.

Singers may be able to tell me if it is just the piece but comparison between her very deep contralto tones in the excerpts of the live recording on Presto as compared with her Bach for Boult in late 1952 seem to show that she has indeed " gone up" singing higher than before.

Not that this will stop be buying this new Somm disc.

PS Can someone please reverse the auto correct which changed Somm to some in the title of this thread.

Well - at least it didn't auto-correct to "from the Somme"!

Talking off the top of my head - IIRC, the Alto line of the Magnificat lies lower than the solos from the Passion and Mass solos (going down to bottom F# below middle C, and only as high as the D natural a ninth above it), which might account for the higher lines of the studio Boult recordings But I'll have to check those solos to confirm this (or otherwise).
