Dory was actually his second wife, his first having been the jazz singer Betty Bennett (1921- ), to whom he was married from 1952-1957; he married Dory Langan (1925-2012) in 1959.

I never thought of him as nerdy. And I'd say he was quite a looker in his day.

Now spinning. Sadly, there is a loud digital 'clack' during the first movement of the 24 bit 4 channel MLP surround layer. I don't remember it being on the 2 channel layers. I will check those and the AC3 surround layer, later. Hopefully, warner will return to this 4 channel surroud recording and issue it on Blu-ray, at some point, and without the 'clack'.

This was my first encounter with Previn's art. 'I could have danced all night' sounded aggressively bitonal at first to my teenage ears, but I got used to it in time (I don't now think it's really bitonal).

He also scored the music for the 1964 My Fair Lady film soundtrack.

              - and wrote five of the fourteen songs that appeared in the film version of Paint Your Wagon (The First Thing You Know, A Million Miles Away Beyond the Door, The Gospel of No Name City, Best Things, Gold Fever).

Can we merge the threads especially as sadly he did not make 90.

Someone has suggested a separate "Favourite Previn Recordings" Thread (although I don't see any moves to actually create such an one) - I think that, if that does come about, this one might more profitably be merged with it, rather than the "RIP" Thread, which I see as more a forum for Forumistas to express their appreciation of Previn's various activities, and their memories of their encounters with it.

Although, you're right: there does seem to be some overlap - I'll see how the distinction between the two Threads (if any) develops.

Aha! I see bsp has unearthed an earlier such Thread.
