    Probably a better bet to assume the former.

      I should hope so - one can only imagine how unpleasant it would be in person if A said I enjoyed that performance of Dutilleux's Cello Concerto and B replied surely you mean Tout un Monde Lointain. Patronising and condescending.

        Actually no, ferney. It's against the house rules to make such accusations about fellow members (being 'snide'). So I will ask you to remove post #5 which I find personally offensive.

            Not necessarily - "in person" one hears the tone of voice of B, so would have no doubt that banter was intended. On the Forum, the emoticons help to redress the absence of such an aural guide, and S_A's response showed that he understood that a gentle teasing was all that was implied.

              I don't understand that Bryn. Could you please explain?

                Well, the expression used was "it's difficult to know when someone is being ironic or being snide", so it wasn't an "accusation" as such ...

                  It's a presentation award.

                  There's also this;

                  for lower levels of achievement.

                    I still don't get it, but the wink-eye means you are gently joshing. Ok

                      I may be wrong, but think the wooden spoon is a way of inferring that you are stirring things, Beefy. As if you ever would!

                            I don't sneer. But a title is a title, and Tout un monde lointain... is the title of Dutilleux's work for cello solo and orchestra, whatever other words might be used informally to describe it.

                              Anyway, love Jayne’s “ new release of the day “ thread !

                              So, given that there are so many experts on this forum, and there is SO much music available to hear, how about some people follow suit, and give us the benefit of their expertise in their own “new “threads.

                              Gurney’s “ New Lieder disc of the month/week “ perhaps.

                              Whatever.

                              It could be a great way to focus collective listening and discussion.
