I note from a quick search for Krebbers that we seem to have missed his passing in May this year a month short of his 95th birthday.

Anyone else remember a WRC recording Endre Wolff with Anthony Collins and the Sinfonia of London?

I'll put in a plea for Mutter with Masur. I bought this after hearing it on the radio and not knowing the soloist or the conductor. The slow movement is sublime IIRC. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brahms-Conc.../dp/B0000041NU

I do have the Mutter/Karajan version, and several of the ones previously mentioned.

Here are some more suggestions - http://thelistenersclub.com/2015/04/...at-recordings/

Also search scroll through here - https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...iolin+concerto

You might try scrolling through here - https://www.prestomusic.com/classica...w=large&page=2

You'll discover that Masur has recorded it several times with different violinists - the Mutter mentioned above is with the NYPO. You might also be reminded of Furtwängler with Menuhin.

I had thought that Nigel Kennedy's version with Tennstedt was good - though the Gramophone was somewhat critical. It is currently very cheap (under £5) at https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-li...n=new&qid=&sr=

There's a new box of the "complete" Philips/Mercury/DG Szeryng recordings coming out on Nov 2nd, it includes 2 recordings of the Brahms but, sadly, not the Monteux.

Is that in one of the earlier large Mercury boxes - I can't remember? I could check, but someone may know to save me looking.

Still not sure, but the box sets might have LSO/Dorati rather than Monteux. I'll have to check further.

No this was an RCA recording and as an LP was on the Victrola label. It was available on CD on the RCA Papillon label and I bought it on what I assume to be some club edition on CD CML025, coupled with Ormandy’s Haydn Variations and Alto Rhapsody. It is also available on download from Amazon.

The Monteux was an RCA recording. I first had it as a Victrola LP.

Coincidentally, Pulcinella, to whom I'm replying, was also there that night - on the programme, that is.
Nice Proms programme: I was abroad on a summer job placement during a thick (1–4–1) sandwich course at the time, but it was before I got into any real Proms attendance (being a northern lad, ).
And wasn't a brilliant red dress part of the trademark?

Whilst Mutter with Karajan is my 'go to' version, recorded at the same time I was so pleased with passing my Grade 8 violin!, I'm surprised no one has mentioned Itzhak Perlman. There's a wonderful video version with Barenboim with Die Berliner Philharmoniker which has some heart stopping moments. Although I admire his version with Guilini, it's a tad 'stodgy'.

                      You prefer the double concerto?
That's never hit the spot for me.

Yes, it was available fora while as a download from Beulah. I didn't get organised in time so it had disappeared by the time I was ready to buy - I wrote to them a couple of weeks ago requesting a re-release. Wolf's earlier 1954 recording has made it to CD on First Hand, released very recently - from what I gather it's mostly stereo.

Is it in the Living Stereo boxes then? I've not checked, but it might be.

Neither in box 1 nor box 2 (nor, indeed in the 'remastered' box). :sad face:

Yes - my favourite of his Concertos.

This sort of thing happens: I think of such works as things to look forward to when they eventually "click".
