      This discussion set me thinking about regional accents on the BBC. There are lots of northern voices now, and famously Caribbean ones. But I'm not aware of much in the way of southern English burrs. It seems that in my childhood there were many more.

        Not quite of the John Arlott league, perhaps, no - but Pam Ayres features regularly on R4, and Jayde Adamas on yesterday's News Quiz had an enviable Bristolian burrrrrrrrr.

                Not to mention the giant mug of coffee...for me, these little personal insights are a pleasant ingredient of the programme and hardly detract from the overall musical content.
