From the Chandos website, one can download Bamert's recording of CHHP's Symphony No. 5 alone for £6.30:

Probably not the most economical way to get the recording, but by far the best way to support the parent label directly.

You can get the Chandos as a single disc. Thanks for that Ferney.

The entire set of Parry Symphonies were broadcast on "Classical Collections" on R3, in 2007. I happened to record all of them from R3, and it was the Boult version of the 5th Symphony that was broadcast.

          10.54am
Parry: Symphony No 5 in B minor (Symphonic Fantasy 1912)
          London Philharmonic Orchestra
          Adrian Boult (conductor)
          EMI CDM 565 107 2

Inspired to revisit this today, it's quite a decent recording too. I do like to have the complete set available to appreciate the composer's development etc.

That was when R3 did an essentially decent job on weekday mornings!

I believe Sanguine Fan was in July 1978, by which time - I think - the Parry 5 was in the can to be issued the following year.

I picked up the Boult disc last year (for hardly any money at all): a fascinating work that repays repeated listening and Sir A. clearly seems to have wanted to sign off with this work for some years before he got round to recording it. EMI probably felt they should indulge him after such a long career, though the market can only have been negligible.

Boult’s recording of Sanguine Fan does not appear to be currently available on CD!

No. The sessions for the Parry LP were on July 31, Oct 4, 9 & 19, and Dec 20 1978 at Abbey Rd No. 1. I was present at one of them.

You can confirm this (but not my presence) in Alan Sanders' discography, published by The Gramophone.

Boult’s recording is very fine but buying a box set?

Thanks. Didn't have the disc to hand, so couldn't check.

Many thanks for the much appreciated guidance. Amazed how rarely this has been recorded. Time for some shopping.
