    Just played Knappertsbusch's Schubert 7/8/9 (D944). Fabulous performance, particularly the first two Movements - some bouts of "interpretation" in the last two that require some indulgence - but throughout, an astonishing clarity from the inner voices, which really sing out without ever obscuring either the hauptstimmen or the underlying bass line. Remarkable Music-making.

      That Krauss Missa Solemnis, curiously was the first recording I`d heard which got me hooked on the work. I remember reviews being quite negative about it - someone described the sound as "sand-blasted" - but it`s an amazing performance indeed. And thought provoking to hear the multiple choral lines of "pacem...pacem..." (peace) in 1940 Austria...

        Yes I think Richard Osborne used that term in his Feb 1992 review in Gramophone.
