I remember doing a Rehearsal Orchestra course under the late Harry Legge and him talking about Menuhin’s Delius concerto recording. It was completed on two sessions rather than the usual three due to budget constraints. Passages that may have been re-taken simply had to stand as they were recorded.

That's interesting. Menuhin must have been persuaded it was worth publishing, perhaps because it was the only stereo (indeed, the only LP) recording at the time. I believe his recording of the Vaughan Williams concerto remained unpublished for many years for the same reason: It sounds slack compared with its rival at the time , Joseph Fuchs on an early Brunswick LP, a crisp performance which won praise.

That might explain why he sounds in better form in the Double Concerto I suppose.
