Mozart Haffner Serenade

I find to my surprise that I do not own and, going through old boxes of cassettes and my LPs, that I have never owned a recording of this work which I have always enjoyed when I have heard it . Any recommendations ? Mackerras would be my choice from Mozart recording instinct.

Willi Boskovsky and the Wiener Mozart Ensemble have been my choice in this work for very many years.

And much to my surprise, I see that I don't own it either! I see there are HIP versions from Bruggen and Koopman. Strange that amidst all the massive amount of Mozart that Hogwood recorded for Decca, he didn't do this piece.

It's on disc 11 of the complete symphonies CD set, along with K.208/K.213c and K. 318. It's also in the 225 box too, of course, (CD 56).

One of my favorite Mozart works. Three favourites of mine - all on DG - Leitner, Kubelik and Bohm. MickyD the Hogwood Symphony box has the Symphony K250 which omits the 'Violin Concerto'!

It has to be Sir Neville Marriner & Academy of St. Martin in the Fields from their set of Mozart - 'The Great Serenades' on Decca. An outstanding set!

I don’t own one either. I used to have an lp released here on the Nonesuch label. My chief recollection of it is that I was disappointed when I discovered it wasn’t the Haffner Symphony, so it must have been purchased early in my record collecting days, and except for occasional encounters on the radio haven’t heard the piece since

Oops- I just consulted the Arkiv Musik web site. Hogwood and the AAM have it included in their complete Symphonies box, which means that I do own it. I’ll give it a spin later. I see that Bryn noted this as well.
There are 32 recordings listed in the Arkiv index. That sounds like a lot but its relatively paltry for a Mozart work. Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, by contrast, has over 180 listings.
Is this one of those pieces that WAM dashed off while waiting for Constanza to finish flossing her teeth or something like that?

In fact the Haffner Serenade always been a favourite of mine among Mozart's orchestral works (as opposed to the Symphony of the same name which I have difficulty bringing clearly to mind), I like this extended multi-movement form with a concerto in the middle. A composer who specialised in this kind of form was Michael Haydn, whose embedded concertini include at least one for trombone. These are works which deserve more of an outing.

Hmm. Further perusal of the Arkiv site shows Bruno Weil recorded it with Tafelmusik, included in a big Sony Vivarte Box that I also own. Do we know if that has the Mini VC?
It’s rather curious that the Fiddlers who have done the complete VCs don’t include this piece

Well, what do you know...I do own it, then! Thanks Bryn, for the correction. Just goes to show how out of control my collection has become, though I suspect I am not the only one in this situation!
