    Bernie might be "reliable and consistent" but no less inspiring, in my view! He's been recording Mahler since 1962. He's one talented conductor who I doubt he will be changing his style at this point in his life.

      Absolutely. His Concertgebouw Mahler set is wonderful. Yes - inspiring - magical even.
      I have just a few of his 'Berlin' set; the symphony no. 1 - wow - a diamond of a recording.

      In fact, I have quite a lot of Haitink in my collection. Not a 'dud' amongst them. Over my years of listening to music, I've noticed that he is a conductor whom I seem to seek out increasingly, in looking for further versions of works I already have.
