    RR 3.3.18 clearly pre-recorded?

It seemed pretty clear to me from the start that today’s RR was pre-recorded in its entirety. Something about Andrew’s delivery being a total ch more deliberate than when broadcasting live. An editing glitch before the record of the week sealed it for me.
I wonder why? The weather warnings? Unavailability of the guest reviewer making it pointless to go live? Of course it may just be that Andrew fancied a well-deserved mid-season break.

I missed the editing glitch if it was just before the Doric String Quartet - but he did sound a little different. (In some ways a bit clearer and the levels between voice and music were better controlled).

The quartet recording was awful - far too much cello and no viola to be heard and violins too far back. Not a very professional job. (Maybe the quartet also contributed to a bad balance).

Didn't hear it (other than a snatch whilst clearing snow off the car!), but could he have been broadcasting from home?

It seems to me that whenever he does not say 'thanks' to a name-checked newsreader, it is recorded i.e. when the recording was made, he did not know who was on duty in the newsroom on transmission day.

Makes it always feel a bit impersonal.

AND when there is very little if any chatty cross-studio work in the Breakfast prog that precedes RR.

I was still dozing a bit between 8.30 and 9 (unforgivable I know, but it’s been an odd week), so thought I might have missed the usual chit-chat. But the absence of the newsreader name-check did contribute to my immediate suspicion.

Only had chance to listen to the first 30 minutes so far but I noticed a big difference in the tonal quality that surprised me. This would explain it.

Looking at the listing for Wednesday's R3iC:

Recorded at the Ueno Gakuen Hall, Hiroshima on Friday 2nd March 2018
                Presented by Andrew McGregor
I can imagine that Saturday's RR would have been pre-recorded (unless he presented live from Japan or on a plane) - well spotted!

Well spotted too! And to think that I suspected for a second that Andrew McGregor might have been taking a weekend off!
