    Kullervo BBCMM CD from 2015 Prom

    Anyway , just got round to listening to the BBCMM CD today . I can only echo the praise of those who attended . A terrific performance and outstanding singing by the chorus . Up there with the legendary Bournemouth SO/Berglund recording IMO .

    I moderately agree - it's by far the performance of the work that has most appealed to me, and whilst I still can't eat a whole one, I'm glad to have made the acquaintance of a recording that allows me to sample bit-by-bit this work (by a favourite composer of mine) that has hitherto merely bored the life out of me.

      Ah! It seems that all posts on the individual Proms concerts in the archive are "unavailable for (further) comment" - presumably on the grounds that no further useful comment can be made on individual concerts after a certain period.

        Yes the much praised RCA Colin Davis bored the socks off me too . The Berglund changed my mind and this performance reinforced my positive view .

        I suspect it is a work rather like the Rustic Wedding Symphony that needs a really good performance . The old joke about the latter was after hearing Beecham conduct it a reviewer wondered why it was not played more often - after hearing another conductor he understood why .

          It's quite a few months since this CD was issued. I enjoyed it up to a point, but Kullervo isn't a work I'm really familiar with. I must get to know it better.

            It was rather fun to sing too!
