I have the Double Decca RPO/Dorati version (Lucia Popp one of the soloists):
And in English, the Classics for Pleasure Kings/Willcocks version, bought as much for the Paukenmesse (which I prefer to the John's version of about the same time) coupling (the soloists are Harper, Tear, and Shirley-Quirk):

Nobody seems to have said anything about the Gardiner recording, which is the only one I know well - he has a very fine choir as always, of course, and a good lineup of soloists too, and a fleet-footed and dramatic approach; it's the only one I actually own. I haven't heard Kuijken or Harnoncourt, both of whom in general do Haydn the way I like it, and I did have the Brüggen recording for a while but once the Gardiner was released I didn't think I'd ever want to hear it again and so disposed of it (this was at a time of serious spatial and financial restrictions!). It isn't a work I spend much time with, for some reason.

First new acquisition - the Fruhbeck de Burghos recording on CFP. Initial thoughts can often be misleading but overall this was rather good if mainly on account of the choir, orchestra, and overall "oomph". (Note highly specialised technical term there..) Not so keen on the soloists, though.
Mr Weil and Tafelmusik now arrived and next to try!
