Having spent a couple of years battling valiantly if unsuccessfully to slim down multiple recordings from my collection, it`s occurred to me that in fact I`m going in the other direction with recordings of Die Schopfung. Having learned the work from Solti`s 1980s Decca set then spent years playing Karajan`s 1960s set, I then acquired Clemens Krauss` 1944 set, a 1950s Munich performance under Jochum, the Dorati/Decca set, and Rattle`s recent BPO broadcast. Hogwood and the Academy of Ancient Music failed to hit the spot for me although I enjoy period performances. I feel the urge to acquire another Schopfung - but which?! I`d be very interested in which recordings are held in high esteem on this board, with a view to then visiting the river people (protesting credit card notwithstanding)...

I've only ever owned two recordings. The first was NYPO/Bernstein on LP, transferred at a very high level, with alarming pre-echo at the most sensitive moments. I then bought the Munchinger, after reading rave reviews. I've never wanted anything better.
(I've lost count of how many performances I've been involved in as an orchestral player. Even more than Messiah.)Comment

Tafelmusik/Weil with Ann Monoyios is excellent. Bit pricey ATM, but available in the Tafelmusik big box at under £70 on marketplace.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I've edited the thread title, as Die Schöpfung carries an umlaut on the 'o'. (No doubt pedantry for some; its absence grates for a german speaker, though!)
