That would take all of five minutes!
Any self-respecting fan of Tippett needs both the Davis/Solti set and the Hickox set, supplemented by Tippett himself in S2 and S4, keeping room on the shelves for the new Hyperion set in progress (BBCSSO/Brabbins).
That's not really enough even for Interpretations on record, were that to be reintroduced, though it would be interesting to have that sort of comparison made.

Good point and guilty as charged. I have been buying a fair few chamber discs of late but it seems to be the orchestral stuff that regularly elicits the best discussion on here!

How about a survey of recordings of works by John Foulds?

The thread is under 20 posts old, be patient and your non-sequitur will be answered.

A general survey on Bliss would be good, or failing that, one on the Colour Symphony, as I guess that is the most recorded work ?
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

How about a round up of chamber works by Parry and Stanford then?

                  Dunstable !!!

... there's only about eight discs devoted completely to his work; there isn't a single work for orchestra in his output; he's the greatest composer this country has ever produced (well, at least before the Second World War).

The "Pulcie Contention" applies here, too, of course - with so few recordings available, everybody (self-respecting and otherwise) should have them all! The purpose of such a BaL would be to draw attention to this Music - and shame the artists and recording companies to buck their ideas up and produce a "Complete Edition" or seven.

                    Dunstaple !!!

On Amazon you have to use both to find the full range available from them.

By the way if people on this board have particular interest in any subject for a blind listening comparison, I'd be happy to arrange one.

                              A disc that best expresses the spirit of transition between;
                              1. Renaissance and Baroque
                              2. Baroque and Classic

A disc that can be the best introduction to early Baroque songs.

I'm looking forward to the new BBCSSO/Brabbins set. Much as I love the Davis/LSO set, there's a real feeling the fiddles are playing through gritted teeth! A violinist friend in the orchestra showed me the part of Symphony 2. My goodness, it's REALLY hard!
