I see that the Mosaiques late quartets are getting a mention on Record Review first thing tomorrow morning. It would be so nice if Naive ever got round to putting them in a box with the other previous recordings. Would that make a complete cycle?

No, apart from that they've only done op.18 so far.

BY the way I've listened a few times to their late quartets and my general impression is very good indeed, especially op.132.

Thanks, Richard..I had a feeling that they hadn't done all of them. One can live in hope!

Indeed. I just listened again to op.130/133 and that is wonderful too. The lightness of touch in the last movement is something that takes some getting used to, in the shadow of almost everyone else playing it as if to show how thornily ahead of its time it is. I think these recordings will probably end up sitting alongside my previous favourite Hagen Quartet ones as my joint first choice. I look forward to trying them out on madame, who generally regards Beethoven as being a bit too macho.

Re. the Op. 59s, the Beeb should still have recordings they made in the '80s with the Salomon Quartet. It would be good to hear them again.

I still have the four or so discs that the Salomons made of Haydn quartets for Hyperion in the 80s - must give them a spin and see how they sound now.

Not quite (Op.59, 1-2 etc as in OP), according to the person who texted AMcG after he'd implied it might be.

However, the excerpt Andrew played from Op131 sounded so entrancing that I couldn't wait for the completion and have ordered it from Presto, who are still offering 40% off in their box set sale (ends 15/1/18).

Finally managed to order a "Used - Good" copy of the Quatuor Turner CD or Op. 59/3 and 74 for a sensible price (£5.72 including p&p). Op. 59/1 and 59/2 remain unrepresented as far as HIPP recordings are concerned. It's a pity, since performances of all three of the Razoumovskys by the Salomon Quartet were broadcast by Radio 3, back in the '80s.
Last edited by Bryn; 13-11-18, 23:55. Reason: Typo (Turner misspelt as Tuner on amazon.fr).

Huge thanks to the fellow contributor here who contacted me to make mp3s of those Salomon Quartet broadcasts available to me. I had forgotten that they were studio recordings. As such, I may even be able to take noise prints of the ambient bitween the movements of each quartet and apply a modicum of noise recuction to remove some of the the FM and tape hiss, not that they are anything less than a delight to listen to without such measures. With the lack of commercial recordings of HIPP performances ot Op. 59/1 and 2, why does the Beeb not sort out the rights issues to get these recordings released or at least re-broadcast. or have they wiped/lost the tapes or whatever medium they were recorded on?

                      ... of the Mosaiques op 18 I have the CDs of 1 & 4 and 5 & 6 - the CD of 2 & 3 seems only available at silly prices. I so hope it will be re-released -

                      .
My guess is that you will have filled this hole by now but if not, see https://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/album/be.../0822189000660 . It even comes with a pdf of the booklet.
