Dennis Brain died 1st September 1957

Any signs anywhere of a 60th anniversary? Any R3 programme? Record Review? Unless I have missed it I have not seen anything.

There was no mention on the BBC on the 50th anniversary of Dennis Brain's sad death.
I wrote about this neglect on the R3forum at the time.

A friend to every horn player - professional or amateur. He was never too busy to talk to any of his fellow horn players.
I think I posted this on that sad anniversary ....

Whenever I met Dennis in the street, he would say "Hello Donald. How' are you getting on?" ...
... and he would listen to the answer!

    RIP

I remember an anaecdote that when he was rehearsing with HvK, he actually played a wrong note! Karajan reportedly said."ah, he is human!"

"Breakfast" this morning - 1st September - commemorated him with a recording of a vilanelle by Dukas, with Gerald Moore on the piano.

Had he another fifteen years, he would certainly have appeared on some Beatles sessions.

I played his recordings of the Mozart 3 and 4 with Karajan last night . They never lose their freshness and " rightness" .
