Did you enjoy this round-up with Sarah Lenton?
I was particularly taken with the excerpts from Alexander's Feast by Ludus Baroque, a new name. Also some gorgeous playing, as you'd expect from Les Talens Lyriques, in Serse (looking forward to their visit to the chamber Proms this year ) and the wonderfully crisp, if slightly clinical, style of Il Complesso Barroco in Ariodante. Incidentally, I'd also recommend their recording of the less well known Berenice, Regina d'Egitto, which came out last year and contains superb singing from counter-tenor Franco Fagioli and mezzo Romina Basso (check out her "Gelo, avvampo").
Happy days for Handel fans, and Rinaldo to come at the Proms.
The reviewer was very adamant that Alcina and Ariodante are the best two. I'm not sure it's as clear-cut as that - there are too many good ones!
