Norrington's recording of Elgar 1 with the Stuttgarters is easily my favourite of the many recordings of that work I have at my disposal. It is also my favourite Elgar work, by some distance.

The Walton/Prokofiev disc referred to in post 21 is the Walton Sonata for Strings, first time on CD (this recording) and Visions Fugitives by Prokofiev. Stunning performances from Marriner, still have the LP, and I have found much to admire in this beautiful box. The orchestra is excellent and there is a quality about this playing that we donĀ“t find anywhere today.
