Conductors that just do not do it for you ?

OK - prejudice maybe or simply experience ?

Conductors whose concerts or records have completely failed to move me

    Marriner
    Andrew Davis
    Harnoncourt
    Skrowacweski

Who is your musical blank spot ?

Personally, I feel sorry for anybody who's never been moved by an Andrew Davis concert. Perhaps Barbirollians didn't see his Vaughan Williams 9th at the Proms a few years ago. After a terrific performance, AD held up the score, intimating to the Prommers that it was as much VW's genius, as the evening's performance, that they were applauding.
I think I might start a thread entitled 'Questions that just do not do it for you'.

The four gentlemen mentioned would not be among my favourites

        - and yet I have been moved by all of them, several times over.

I suspect sharing our enthusiasms is a more productive type of messageboarding.

          Ofcachap,

That terrific VW 9th is out this month as BBC Music Magazine's cover disk, as mentioned on other threads. It was an unforgettable evening in the Arena.

Indeed, it was as a result of following that thread that I was prompted to dignify this thread with a reply.

I agree. There are to many negative threads.

Gergiev is definitely better heard than seen. When I watch him, I find his mannerisms and on-stage appearance quite unpleasant and distracting.

What a number of pious responses . The purpose of this thread which has attracted such opprobrium was that those conductors , all very competent no doubt, have not moved me in the way others have . Is that me or something about their approach ? What am I missing ?

If you do not like a thread surely the most sensible thing is not to post on it .

Seconded. It must be hard living with such paragons.

MTT and JEG. Yes, two of the worst.
