Altogether, a most propitious week for me with welcome delivieries since Easter.
Today, a set of DG 8CD boxsets, Bernstein/VPO - Beethoven 9, Bruckner 9, Haydn Sym 88,92, &94, Mahler 5, Mozart 41 and 40, Schumann Sym 2 and Cello Conc (Mischa Maisky), DSCH,Sym 6 & 9, and Sib 1. Abbado, CSO - Bartok PC's, 1 & 2, (Maurizio Pollini), Berlioz, Symphony Fantastique, Mendelssohn, VC's, (Shlomo Mintz), Mahler, Sym 1 & 2, (Carol Neblett & Marilyn Horne), Sym 5, Prokofiev, Scythian Suite, Lt Kije, Chopin, PC 2, (Ivo Pogorelich), Prokofiev, VC's, (Shlomo Mintz).
Shopped around, best deal from the river people @ £17 44 per set.
An exceptional bargain, via river people, for the Carlo Curley bio, In The Pipeline. £3 37,incl postage. Further details on my York RMS posting, Talking Music block.
Welcome, too, was a 2CD set, Testament label; Rostropovich, Britten and Pears, recorded live at the 1961 Aldeburgh Festival, adverse criticism for the LP but the remastering is little short of miraculous and a mouth-watering programme of Schubert, Britten, Schumann, Debussy & Bach.
Finally, the 2017 Proms brochure, beautifully designed, too, arrived on Thursday. Retails at £7 but discounted at £5 90 by the river people but I don't know whether this was a pre-order price.
Many goodies for me throughout the season.
