Some certainly were - including the sonatas he recorded with the late and greatly missed Perter Katin. Be good to have them in a boxed set - Beulah released other Decca recordings that Decca subsequently remastered and released under therir own label: the Anthony Collins Sibelius cycle, for one.

Actually, I've followed Nicola since she won Young Musician in the Usher Hall and I've been very interested to hear her playing develop. I think she makes a much better sound than she did as a youngster and I find her vibrato more focused. I always enjoy her playing both live and on cd. No, I don't think she's quite on the same level as Lisa Batiashvili , Vilde Frang or Janine Janson but she's certainly deserving of the career she's developing.

She's a real ambassador for classical music and such a lovely lady.

A friend of mine heard her play for his concert society a few years back - she wasn't paid, she just got expenses. He was impressed that she turned up early and practised for three hours in the room before the concert. Proof that she takes what she does very seriously and is not just a 'pretty face.'

I've been listening to Sarah Chang's 1999 recording of R Strauss's early violin concerto and sonata. Wonderful playing with Bavarian Radio SO and Sawallisch (conducting and accompanying).

But what has happened to the still-young Chang? Off the radar since 2010.

She got into cultural ambassadorial roles in 2011. Here own website give a 2009 Bruch/Brahms CD as a "new release".

She's a bit of a twit (is that the right term?)

I see Cho Liang Lin's Sibelius and Nielsen coupling with Salonen is going for pennies secondhand on Amazon .

I have now a CD copy on its way . It is strange how sometimes one can forget recordings that meant a lot to you . I blame Ida Haendel as her Sibelius recordings rather obliterated pre CD versions from my mind .

The Nielsen is terrific I have quite a few versions and only Frang comes close for me .

I have the Sibelius on Beulah and also a CD reissue of En Saga, Karelia, Finlandia and Swan of T which he did with the RPO on EMI.

Amazed to see from Presto site that apart from the odd download and the recent incorporation of the Nielsen/Sibelius in the Salonen Nielsen symphony box none of Cho Liang Lin's Sony records are available in the UK especially the outstanding Prokofiev/Stravinsky concerto record that is up there with KWC's identical coupling .

Glad you've gone for the CD, it's really quite a bargain as his other CDs often are.

Following PGs comments above, as things gradually get onto CD one of my top missing disks was Tibor Varga's Nielsen. I think it did come out in a big DG box recently but wasn't available on its own for download, must look again!

The Campoli news is fantastic, most of it has come out over the years but the Bruch/Saint Saens that many of us grew up with on Ace of Clubs has only been available on LP transfer and some of the 10" encore recordings have never appeared. Does anyone know whether Eloquence have access to the tapes?

                  Mike

As Eloquence are part of the Universal conglomerate it would seem likely that they have access, where still available.

I can't find any reference to this online and the Eloquence website doesn't mention it in their "Eloquence in 2017" trailer. Do you have any further info on the releases? Does it include his light music recordings?

                      thanks

Do you know which box set it is, Mike?

Infuriatingly I can't find it now but I'm pretty sure it was in a DG box set covering late mono/early stereo years.

It is possible that I am confusing it with another DG recording that I have been waiting for, Gimpel's Lalo, which was in 'The mono Era'1948-1957' but not available for download from the DG site.

The thing is, the Varga's Nielsen was a Vox recording. Are you sure Decca/DG/Universal licences it from them?

Mike it was when Australian Eloquence had their own FB page . I note that this now appears to have been subsumed in Eloquence Classics so hope not scrapped then again they promised the Monteux Beethoven about a year before it arrived

I have one or two of these DG boxes as well as a friend who has everything DG releases so I'll try to find it.
