And I got a telling off for going 'off topic' for mentioning Laredo in the ''cellists' site...

          So?

Just because I'm English doesn't mean I'm obliged to speak the language as it was 1500 years ago - Old English, or even the late Middle English, or perhaps Shakespearean English. Added to which I have no idea who my forbears were, or where they came from. Are you omniscient, and know where Jaime originated and therefore feel obliged to prescribe the form of speech he should use, or how he should be addressed? We believe he comes from Bolivia, which is in South America and some distance from Israel.

So what's Hebrew got to do with it?

Erm ... when you're quite ready ... have a look at #56? The Hebrew origins of the name? Away from the topic of Virtuosi and their fashionability - but blame whoever it was who raised the question of what Mr Laredo's forename was in the first place!

Etymology, sunbeam - of interest to some of us on the Forum; annoying to you, perhaps - but since when do you proscribe what I - or any other Forumistas - am permitted to Post on the Forum?

                Beats me.

Anyway, I'm currently listening to the classic du Pre recording of the Elgar 'concerto with Sir John Barbirolli. Is du Pre in or out of fashion?

All I did to start was to point out that Jaime's name was that - not Jamie. You went off on the Hebrew tangent.

Follow up to that - http://collegian.csufresno.edu/2017/...music-faculty/

I didn't know Fresno State had a concert hall, but perhaps it's just the small room they use sometimes. Seeing the reference to the Fresno Bee I thought the performances would be downtown, but they clearly weren't. I guess it was a good experience, and good to see Lynn H still active. I last saw him in Manchester at the last 'cello festival.

Not with me ! I have loads of Elgar Cello Concerto recordings and like most of them a great deal but she remains head and shoulders above them all . I think her live Proms Dvorak on BBC Legends with Charles Groves is pretty special . No doubt hindsight but what a shame she did not record it with Barbirolli ( a truly great Dvorak conductor) when they recorded that odd Schoenberg adaptation of a concerto by Monn instead to be coupled with the Haydn Cello Concerto in D .
