I just played the 24/192 download of the NYPO/Gilbert Nielsen 2nd and ....whoa... those New York brasses vintage 2011? Heavens....my Goodness....! Really quite the phenomenon. Wowser
!
I didn't take to it so much, a few years ago, on acquisition.... it's a grower...(as recordings should hopefully be).
Love the very natural, concert-hall perspectives on this Da Capo set, the climaxes truly open out, gloriously so in the malincolico... quite something. I don't really have faves in this rep, would probably place Oramo or Blomstedt DRSO ahead of this very heroic one (more idiomatic, humorous, quicksilver etc) but... what a wonderful hi-res Nielsen thing to sit in front of....
(I did briefly try a comparison with the NYPO/Bernstein one, but....well....hmm....yeah...
