The Colin Davis Nielsen Symphonies are good value if not the Berlioz bargain.

I was tempted. But IIRRC, two/three of Davis' CN symphonies are duds (can't remember which ones - quite a while ago now)

I'd heard that too, but figured the price was good for two or three good ones. Same rationale as for the Gergiev Mahler...

Yes, I think you're rationale is good for the Nielsen. I'm getting tempted. But I have full cycles by Ole Schmidt, LSO; Blomstsedt San Fran & Danish NSO; Michael Schønwandt, Danish NSO; Berglund, Royal Danish Orchestra. Plus various single discs by Karajan, Dudamel, Rattle and Myung-Whun Chung. What point the Davis, then?

Regarding the Gergiev, you're rationale is good there too. The live performances were orgasmic! 6 was one of the best gigs I ever attended, but the CD is a let-down (albeit an excellent let-down!).

I'm winging my way towards the Berlioz! I'm telling myself it's too much of a bargain to miss (after you and Bryn tell me the same!).

In which case you need the Bernstein coupling of 3 & 5 (dead cheap on Qobuz)....

The Berlioz purchase for me, as I had already got the CDs of Sym Fant and Harold, was initially for Romeo & Juliet, but hey this set is colossal and a great way to expand my appreciation of Berlioz’ repertoire for a few quid! Thanks matias for drawing attention to these great value downloads. Interesting that when I came to sign in I discovered I already had an account - I think it was in connection with purchases from other sites - can’t remember but I think it was Sainsbury or HMV and one other but my purchases included the Kondrashin Shostakovich Symphonies.

I might go for that .....

Edit: I've bought the Berlioz and the Nielsen

Many thanks for the heads up on this

I can't locate all my Berlioz CDs anyway and I'm trying to go completely electronic, so it makes sense.

That Berlioz is unmissable. I even went large and did the extra 10 bob on the FLACs

thanks to the folks who flagged this up.

Might go back for more later.

Sergio Fiorentino Edition. Loving these late recordings from a sometimes under-appreciated master, eg Franck, Schumann Fantasie, Chopin Sonata.

The FLACs I downloaded totalled 7.58GB. The zip was only 3.79GB.

Oops! I accidentally included the zip when totalling the FLACs. The FLAC total is in fact just the 3.79GB.
