What’s the deal with the Nelsons Shostakovich 4/11 being offered in “CD Quality “ FLAC only? The previous recordings from this series were offered in High Res FLAC and are the single most impressive recordings I own. Do the powers that be think there is no point in High Resolution? I am going to wait and see if the High Res becomes an option.

It's showing for me as available in High Res, though admittedly Qobuz confuse the issue by having a separate entry for CD-quality only.

My Presto download is hi-res 96/24. The 16 bit download was also available.

I’ve only checked the Presto site, where I had purchased the previous recordings in the series, and it isn’t offered, although the Hig Res versions of the previous recordings are still available. Perhaps the High Res isn’t available here?

Very confusing. I tried listening to the Qobuz stream but had no idea what I was listening to, despite trying to sort it out by referring to Mikhail Pletnev's new recording of the 4th (coupled with the 10th). I'll stick with Qobuz if I decide to download and will rearrange the tracks myself and adjust the metadata — I'll do this because of the price differential for 96/24 (€15.50 on Qobuz; €17.00 on Presto).

Incidentally, the playing on that final movement of the 11th is astonishingly committed.

Ravel - Mother Goose Suite, Le Tombeau etc
Francois Xavier Roth - Les Siecles

              Hi-Res from eClassical

I already have the excellent Daphne from these guys, so this one was a must.

It’s now showing in Hig Res for $14.50. I am on vacation now but will earmark it for when I return

OK, not 24 bit (but at least not mp3) but a bit of a bargain:

Had I not managed to accumulate them all on CD, over the years, I would certainly be up for that. A very real bargain.

I was just about to thank HD for the heads-up on this bargain and ask forumistas for their views relating the quality of these performances. I take your comments as an endorsement! I shall procede!

I've a fair few excellent sets of pretty much all the Haydn quartets I ever listen to, but sometimes a certain opus captures my imagination and I don't have it. I still haven't turned the corner on streaming and need to 'own' my recordings.

                          This'll do

Unfortunately, in my experience, Amazon mp3s tend to be restricted to 256kbps VBR, considerably below the audio quality of Radio 3 via the iPlayer at 320kbps AAC-LC, which offers not only a higher data rate but also a superior data compression regime.

I reckon they make a very fine complement to the ongoing London Haydn Quartet series. It is a little confusing that if one opts for the QOBUZ web player, it suggests that 24-bit Hi-Res is available, yet I can find no pricing or download option for such.

Hmm. Strange. I've bought the 16 bit CD quality download, but I will try to see if there's a better quality download at the same price. If there is, I'll pick it up with Qobuz who are excellent at this sort of customer quibble.
