Finally got round to buying and downloading two sets - Belder's Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, and the collection of French piano concertos.
I bought these in Flac versions - but now I've got to figure out an easy way to play or confert them. This is making me pause before trying for the Festetic SQ Haydn sets.

What do you want to convert them to? Many modern 'disc' players, etc. can play FLACs, either burned to a CD-R or on a USB storage device.

I tried to download the Padmore Wintereise by following their instructions, but nothing happened!

If I could play them directly within MacOS I probably wouldn't bother. I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a good player which would work on MacOS - and preferably not cost me an arm and a leg.

iTunes and the inbuilt players finally got round to accepting mp3s, but AFAIK Apple has held off providing support for FLAC till now.

In the early years of this century, I used to save the DAB mp2 files to SC card, from my Pure radios. One thing that decided me against an iPod was that that would not play them, either. Fortunately, many alternative 'mp3 players' handled both mp2 and FLAC without hassle.

It isn't a new app, I've been using it for years in various versions on my main computer as my default audio file playback software. Whether it works on an iPad is another matter though.

I'm not sure if Vox can or will work in fully stand alone mode. On iPads - fairly new ones at least - it seems to want to steer users towards logging in to some remote server - so effectively will track whatever the user is doing. This tendency unfortunately seems to be all over the place now. I'm not sure if that's the way the desktop/laptop OS based versions also work. There is definite "encouragement" to register with the Vox service, perhaps to nudge people towards yet another paid for cloud service. Some people won't care or mind, and may find the server/subscription model helpful, which indeed it might be for them.

It is biased I guess - since it seems to recommend 5kplayer. Curious that it even mentions some competitors. However I can confirm that 5kplayer does appear to play flac files reasonably well. I've yet to see how it will work if a whole bunch of downloads are dumped into it - but this is a start.

Disappointed that the couple of James Dillon releases earlier this year already appear to be sold out, in terms of physical copies. And since one of them (Emblemata: Carnival) appears to consist of many tracks of a shorter length and I still don't know how to get a download comprised as such to play continuously, I guess that narrows it down to the other, Tanz/haus. Playing now, anyway...
