What is exciting is Dottore Antonini’s return to his first and foremost instrument as a soloist, the recorder. How many music directors' main instrument is the recorder!!?

Franz Bruggen was a major conductor (IMO) who also was a recorder virtuoso. I didn't know about Antonini.

I have some downloads - though they are not my preferred choice. Sometimes though, they are very cheap. I have a fairly complete set of Itzhak Perlman which were on MP3, and various others. I'll come back with a more detailed list and discussion later. Some downloads also come courtesy of Amazon and the AutoRip feature, and sometimes I can't be bothered to load the CD. My first downloads were off iTunes as I wanted some particular pieces in a hurry. I think they were of Peterson-Bergers Frösöblomster , as the CD I had of those had gone AWOL .... and I have never found it ....

I’ve turned the corner on downloads, space considerations finally tipping the balance, if I can mix my metaphors.

Is it just me, or is it a dull year for new releases so far? A really dull year.
Almost all my purchases have been 2ndhand or Japanese CDs...(another Rögner live Weitblick box on the way, this time Brahms/Schoenberg - nearly all the major orchestral works with the wonderful Berlin Radio SO. Relevance to thread: you can't buy a download of this ).
And I have run out of shelf space again, as Rögner and Knappertsbusch CDs crowd me out at this desk...

I have the Venzago Honegger 3/5 that HD mentioned, excerpts sound excellent but time and Bruckner keep getting in the way.
There's a promising Suisse Romande effort with a new young star which I'll get around to soon, if only for the Roussel. A Hi-res Bacchus! Perfect band for Albert, I would think. Excerpts on Qobuz-hifi sound excellent again.

time and Bruckner keep getting in the way

If all you want is Bruckner no wonder it's been a dull year for new releases!

My latest downloads have been three in number, from the baroque ensemble Acronym, as enthused about on the baroque music thread.

Not a fan of Kazuki Yamada, I'm afraid. His Bizet/Gounod and Russian Dances were both pretty disappointing, IMO. Guess he could hit his stride with thia one, though. Enticing programme.

Toyed with the idea of downloading Chandos's 24/96 download of Gardner's recording of Rendering only to opt for the slightly cheaper SACD option on Amazon on the mistaken assumption that I would be able to extract the SACD layer through my Sony BDP S-7200 via an HDMI splitter connected up to my M DAC+. Now lumbered with what is essentially a 16/44 recording which sounds dreadful in its hybrid CD format.
