    Furtwangler The Legend

Just enjoying this amazingly cheap 3 CD box from EMI released recently.

In particular, a terrific Vltava , Unfinished Symphony and much the most atmospheric Fingal's Cave overture I have ever heard .

Does anyone have this new 11 CD Furtwangler box?
If so, please could you check the opening of the 3rd Movement of Mozart's 40th Symphony. Is the first crotchet accidentally "chopped"? This fault first occurred on EMI's first CD reissue, and the same fault is "reproduced" on subsequent EMI issues, and on the Naxos Historical version. I would dearly love to have a recording without this very annoying "cut".

Oh, wait a minute. I see the Mozart 40th is on the "Furtwangler, The Legend" set too.
Barbirollians, could you possibly check that 3rd movement opening?

Thank you Barbirollians for alerting me to this set. Pretty familiar repertoire with the exception of Cherubini's Anacreon overture but what lovely performances.

btw I was in Fnac in Nice last week and spied a massive 100+ CD Furtwangler set. Membran I think the label was. Anyone come across this?

The cheapest I have seen it recently is 150 euros at jpc although I saw it for around £110 when it first came out.

The 3CD set is available on Spotify and appears to have the same flaw, unfortunately - it is missing the attack on the first note. It's described as a 1998 remastering. Same as the other EMI version on Spotify (a 2006 2CD set with Piano Concerto No 20 and two serenades) listed as a 2006 remastering.
