    BAL Second Viennese School 7.1.17

Professor Erik Levi / releases by composers from the Second Viennese School.

What a terrific hour long segment this is!
Levi really knows his stuff and talks well on a less is more basis.
A primer that illuminated without gush.

I've just arrived in Hong Kong (17 hours from Nice) so DM's heads-up on this segment (which I would otherwise have missed) is most welcome, as Erik Levi's erudition - without in any way wearing it on his sleeve - has helped with the jet-lag. The Christian Gerhaher "Wozzeck" a must-buy from what I heard.

Many thanks for the heads-up on this - I had no idea it was on, would’ve missed it.

"Wozzeck" helps your jet-lag, Dougie? Each to his own!

The schedule page for tonight's Lulu broadcast is very short on detail. No mention of Cerha's role, and no indication of whose translation is used (Richard Stokes's). Insultingly remiss on both counts.

BTW does anybody know how long one normally waits until the latest BaL comes up on the iPlayer?

As part of Record Review (it was not a BaL - that's an error this thread's title), it became available within an hour of the end of Record Review. It is currently to be found at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b087q1x1 The relevant section starts about 1 hour 41 minutes in. The playlist fails to mention it.

Sorry it was not BAL, but RR. I hope people will find it and enjoy it.

Indeed. Would that the schedule page playlist compiler had been as helpful.
