Time to own up how many unplayed box sets

I still have "Handel the Great Oratorios" from Decca Classics to go through. I've played about 5 works from this set so far. The other one is Wagner Operas and other recordings. I have played two operas and two of the collection CDs. Must play as so far both these recordings a fabulous!

I'm holding off buying anything for a few more weeks - though I did get some small boxes from LSO Live recently (Nielsen and Sibelius symponies on SACD hybrids), and the Michael Gielen box from Hänssler from jpc.de - which I've not dipped into yet.

Yes, it is. Top quality performances and sound as well. Very enjoyable. You should also have a look at the Decca Classics box of, Sibelius The Great Performances, as well,

All bar Semele and 'Mucky Beast' (as my step-mother always refers to it) are with period forces too.

Thanks for that: one more obscure word in my Georges Brassens collection explained (it appears in Les Funérailles d'Antan) - only a couple of thousand more to go.

Thanks again! I'm a fan of Brel too, but the writers (apart from Simenon) have passed me by, I'm ashamed to say.

(Incidentally, do you know whether Brassens's Yorkshire counterpart, Jake Thackray, has any sort of a following in France? I imagine that his lyrics might pose an equal and opposite challenge outre manche)

I'll consider the Handel. Re the Sibelius, maybe the performances are outstanding, but there's a very significant number of old/mono recordings in the box. Plus I've got lots of Sibelius sets or almost sets already. Some of them still unopened!

The three Karajan boxes (1960s, 70s and 80s) sit handsomely on my shelf but I would doubt if I've played more than 10% of each box. I desperately want to hear all of the discs but there is so much else clamouring for attention with so little time of the day remaining after work. It's going to take a long time.

Currently play Eduard van Beinem's cd, in this set. Very good indeed. A collection of the tome poems plus the VC ass well!
