I am listening to the Monteux/LSO Daphnis and Chloe contained in 'The Decca Sound' big box right now, and the music is positively leaping from the speakers, astonishingly vivid for a recording of such vintage. I used to have this on a CD, now missing, but I don't remember it sounding anywhere this realistic. Regardless of potential duplication issues, at this price, this set is an outstanding bargain.

I agree with rfg about the Decca Sound box - it's very good - though I don't play CDs from it too much. When I do I'm really impressed with both the quality of the sound and the recordings. I think the other boxes in the Decca Sound series (Analogue Years and Mono) are probably also very well worth while, but I've not got round to them yet. I don't actually see why the second of those boxes has the specific title "Analogue Years" as surely some of the recordings in the original DS box were also analogue - but presumably recordings in box number 2 had no digital processimg before the remastering for CDs.

or this if you can find a less costly copy
There are quite a lot of JSB works in the Dupré box, although some of the performances are very magisterial. I assume that is because of the intransigence of the organ and the St-Sulpice acoustic (or Dupré's preference).

I did see Monteux conduct once, in Liverpool, though I can't remember what was played. Perhaps RLPO historians would know.

The Decca are generously filled. While retaining original cover work of the lp of the featured work, the fillers are generous, ocassionally equaling the featured work in length. Many of the Sony/RCA boxes only reproduce the original lp, resulting in short timed CDs, although the boxes are so inexpensive that one can't complain

But how this relates to Sibelius 2 or the Enigmas (not D&C) still escapes me.
(I bought the CD from a Hungarian supplier, for the Sibelius; though on Decca Eloquence, this coupling was not released in the UK, so perhaps the choice of cover art fitted in with some other - non UK - releases we didn't get to see.)
