    They can be so annoying.

I haven't been a fan of Amazon, ever since they nearly doubled the cost of Prime, giving you the film service, whether or not you wanted it. So I look for marketplace vendors, and then contact them directly.

A friend ordered the Fricsay vol. 1 set on DG and had a problem with missing discs. I always find it's well worth checking box sets to make there are no duplicates.

Yes. I bought the Hannsler Bach edition in a very cheap box. It was only much later that I discovered a few duplicates (and therefore some omissions). I think Bryn had a similar problem.

I must just leap to the defence of Phillips' 180 disc complete Mozart which was masterminded by the late Erik Smith:

In 1991 he [Erik] created his master work, the Complete Mozart Edition, on 180 CDs. He even completed some of Mozart's unfinished works, such as the finale of the String Quartet, K. 464.

It was a great achievement for its time. (I had the privilege of playing for Erik's funeral in the Chapel of Forde Abbey...including one of Erik's discoveries of Mozart juvenilia.) Erik was a great scholar and practical musician, a world-class record producer and a most genial man.

Indeed. I bought the Philips edition at a bargain price from Britannia Music. An astounding achievement, and I'm still debating whether to go for the newer version as I'm likely to prefer modern instrument performances.

We shall see - after all, there was the Vivaldi operas box and the Real Chopin where we were lucky

                  Indeed, nothing ventured ...

I had an email from amazon.co.uk this morning apologising for the delay in delivery of my current order. However, they are still offering today as the estimated delivery date despite the fact that they are still "preparing for dispatch". If both eventually arrive, I shall have to find s0meone deserving of a rather good Saturnalian present.

Shurely shome mishtake ..... Unsurprisingly, it's also being flagged up as their current number one best-seller. I shall be amazed (if I can be forgiven the pun) not to receive an e-mail shortly to say, "Désolé, nous avons trompés .....", or the equivalent. I assume that it would be the edition 'en Français' so if Bryn does end up with two copies he can compare the enclosed tomes.

                      I've just ordered it.

But yes, it may be too good to be true.

Alas, yes. Just received the not-unexpected e-mail from AmFrance saying that, as the article had been erroneously priced, my order was being cancelled. Now a snip - not - at 488 euros.

Interesting ... I just took my faulty set back to the hifi shop where I ordered it. They contacted the suppliers, presumably Amazon, who said I would get a refund on the purchase price. But, if I wished to re-order it, the price had gone up by fifty quid.

Firstly, I wonder if my refund will include the thirty quid mark up added by the shop: I wont mind if it doesnt, they cant be expected to do all this work for nothing.

Secondly, is it legal for a supplier to put up the price of a replacement if the goods are defective? The hifi shop cant do anything about it, because they dont actually keep the goods in stock.

I'm not sure I understand you, umslopo - it sounds as if you're saying that "all this work" consists of the shop going online to order stock from Amazon, for which they charge £30.

If I've understood you correctly - can I draw your attention to ferney enterprises, ltd: I'll ... err ... they'll provide a similar service to you for half that amount!
