    Gillian Moore or less

I'm finding Gilliam Moore's choices interesting, but what is she on about re. Nancarrow recordings. It was not the compromised Wergo survey which brought Nancarrow's music to the fore, but those issued rather earlier on the 1750 Arch label (more recently re-issued in CD transfers by Other Minds). These used both of the composer's specially prepared player pianos in their prime condition.

    1750 is considerably earlier, Bryn!

Thank you for that golden oldie. However, I think you forgot to collect your coat.

I'll need a new winter coat once I have left the sultry south and am living in York!

I've got the Wergo set btw; in what sense do you mean compromised?

Only one of Nancarrow's player piano's was in usable condition at the time of the Wergo project, some studies were thus played on the instrument they were not intended for. It's all quite honestly dealt with in the excellent booklet notes. I would also mention the much more recent composer approved use of modified Bösendorfer Grand and Fischer Grand Pianos with Ampico Player Piano on MDG. These are really quite superb. However, do seek out the 1750 Arch recordings in their Other Minds CD manifestation.

Thanks for the clarification and exhortation, Bryn.
Not adding to the contents on the shelves at present, as I'm busy clearing out and getting rid of duplicates instead, but perhaps it's time to start my Christmas wishlist. From comments on other threads, Richard Barrett's Vanity and some Rouse are likely candidates on that list.
