    Ravel Piano Trio Recommendations

My only recording of this wonderful piece, by a rather unknown French ensemble, has gone missing. Recommendations for a replacement, please

Another download for you, perhaps, Richard.

This version 'won' the Building a Library recommendation (hard to believe it was so long ago, December 2009!):

Ravel - Sonatas & Trios. Erato: 5454922. Buy download online. Renaud Capuçon (violin), Gautier Capuçon (cello), Frank Braley (piano)

    Capuçon brothers with Frank Braley.

I have the version on Naxos, which seems well thought of (Joachim Trio); I like it, anyway, though I remember being tempted by the winner.

French Piano Trios, Vol. 1. Naxos: 8550934. Buy CD or download online. Joachim Trio

I also have the Capuçons/Braley, and also Bell/Thibaudet/Isserlis and the J-J Kantorow (used in the film 'Un Coeur en Hiver')

I'd put the Dali performance top, though I don't know the Trieste recording.

I continue to agree with myself on this !

I'd go straight for this version, Richard.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I'm very happy with my Altenberg Trio recording; just beautiful, and one of my all-time fave pieces of music.

The lossless download from QOBUZ (replete with pdf of the booklet) is more friendly on the bank balance at €9.99.

#10 cloughie, there are three Beaux Arts Trio recordings, from 1956, 1966 and 1983, in the 60 CD bargain box of all the Beaux Arts recordings on Philips (now Decca, as you say). Any preferences?

I also have two LP versions, both of which I like very much: Maria de la Pau, Yan Tortelier and Paul Tortelier on HMV and Previn, Kim and Kirshbaum, also on HMV. Probably both have made it to CD (may well be listed in previous posts, I havent checked them).

The name Tortelier prompts me to mention:

Interesting, I didnt know he also conducted: on the LP, YP T plays the violin.

I greatly admire the acount of the Ravel trio by Frank Braley, Gautier Capuçon & Renaud Capuçon on Virgin. It's the recording that I've settled on since it was released in 2002.

Not sure which it is and away from collection at the moment. I like the idea of a 60 CD set of BAT - must check it out.
