Like a lot of us, I spend a small fortune on music, almost exclusively from Amazon (with a smattering of downloads from Qobuz).

The keenest prices that I get are 99.9% found on Amazon.

I am very surprised what people are saying here.

I just did a few checks on Hive (had never heard of them before) and they are coming up at around 400% more expensive on purchases I’ve made at Amazon in the last fortnight.

    Edit:

I bought Skrowaczewski’s complete Bruckner cycle for £31* direct from Amazon, Presto Classical are asking £54.

The Complete Skrowaczewski OEHMS recordings are £67.70 direct from Amazon, (or £49.95 Amazon market) Presto Classical are asking £89.

    * Now gone up to £46, still £8 cheaper than Presto, for example.

Yes, but are you saying you are totally bypassing Amazon by contacting the sellers direct ie by googling them?

I haven't checked this for ages
but as i'm packing to move house I found an unopened box of CDs in the loft
From a group I used to be in that doesn't exist
Strange to see that Amazon says it can sell me a copy for £3.98 when all the unsold copies in the Universe are either here or in a loft in Derbyshire
The group no longer exists, the label it was on no longer exists, the distribution deal is defunct so how do they know where to look ?

The business model IS to try and make a list of everything in the universe and assume that they can get it and sell it!

Not sure what Alpie is doing but certainly some independent businesses, EG the online retailer Books Etc, sell through Amazon Market Place, but you can also go direct to their website.

More often than not I buy from englishpostbox via Amazon.

Same service, speed and notifications, and invariably a few quid cheaper.

I rarely by from Amazon. I go on their site and choose one of the market sellers. There are about 3 sellers that I get most of my new discs from. Occassionally I order from Zoverstocks in the UK.
The last disc I bought was Rubinstein 10 disc Chopin set. Amazon wanted $29.00 My US seller had it for $12.00. Another $5 for tax shipping

Did the group send them a box for distribution and they have never been asked for one? Perhaps you should test them by ordering a copy.

Probably a good thing you are moving, GG.
One of their" profit centres" is to charge the supplier if listed items are ordered by a customer, but are out of stock.

NO we never sent them any
                    They never got distributed
with the first album we made one of the group thought we could get loads of royalties by ordering multiple copies then sending them back (it didn't work and he spent more of stamps in a month than most folks would in a year!)

That's interesting, Alison, as englishpostbox are part of MDT. Are they undercutting their own prices by selling on Amazon?

So if you ordered a copy now?

                          They would say, "fine"
then after a while send an email saying they were having a little trouble locating a copy
then after a couple of months offer a refund

(I've had this a few times with rareish things)

Tell me the title and I’ll take a punt and see what happens. Will be an interesting experiment. I’m willing to risk the small outlay plus p&p. You can pm me the details if you don’t want to go public on it.

Perhaps they are only competitive for books. Must admit I've not used them for CDs so have not checked their prices.
