The problem I have is that many of them are not completely superfluous, as the original releases usually contain texts in the booklets and the big box issues seldom do: an example is the Boulez Gurrelieder. So get rid of them or not?

A fellow forumite (you know who you are!) relieved me of some duplicates and unwanted CDs, and kindly sent a donation to a local charity where I do volunteer work and am a trustee: I thought that that was quite a handy solution for me. And I get reports or gather from messages posted here that he's working his way through them too!

Yes, I'm familiar with that problem too!

I wish it were possible to give these CDs away to other Forum members. I have done this once or twice but Ferney highlights the problems exactly and I simply haven't got the time to administer it. Giving them away to friends as Anna suggests is fine but I have only one other music loving friend outside of this Forum and he is heavily into Hyperion discs of which I have none to give away. So it looks like a couple of hundred CDs will be off to the various charity shops in town - and sorry ER it's not Stockport!

I donate them to a local lending library. They give me a slip of paper with an estimate of their value and we use it for a tax deduction.
Except when my wife hangs them as Christmas Ornaments

On a related topic, does anyone have any idea what might have happened to the late Edward Greenfield's and Hugh Scully's massive collections?

Probably an Oxfam shop manager with a huge smile on his face!

God knows what my family will do with mine. Throw them in a skip?!

My sons will probably fight over mine, though I've given them a fair few already.

Of course, with downloads, there's no such problem, assuming you haven't lost or accidentally deleted them first.

Quite, which is why I've been steadily ripping, backing up and getting rid of (some) cds, mainly through selling at various recorded music society meetings, or giving to the charity shops.

A fellow Forumite has already expressed an interest! There could be a queue forming. Will bear you in mind if this one falls through.
