CD Review to revert to Record Review?

I notice that on the BBC schedule pages there appears to be a programme name change from 2nd January - or is it a mistake?

With recordings available in many formats other than CD, I suppose this makes sense.

The listings in BBC Music Magazine still call it CD Review (but that might have gone to press before any name change was decided).
The Building a Library element is as follows.
2 January: Beethoven Symphony 5 (Nicholas Baragwanath)
9 January: A survey of recordings of Dutilleux (no name given: a discussion, I wonder?)
    16 January: not listed
23 January: Debussy Nocturnes (Julian Johnson)
    30 January: not listed

Yes, I was aware of the 2.01.15 BaL. A bit scary, but I've already made a provisional list. By the time you've read them out, there might still be a microsecond or two to play a clip of each.

May be my imagination - or one of those inexplicable dreams - but I seem to recall the controller saying something about the increasing popularity of vinyl, alongside CD - so perhaps the name change is intended.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Make sure to include the Boulez, which has at last turned up on CD in the Sony Boulez (as conductor) box. It really should not be in the running for the short list, but it is available, and is a bit of a curio as it was, I think, the first recording to include the full repeat in the Allegro 3rd movement (ABABA'). One of Boulez's students had convinced him of the validity of Beethoven's manuscript markings re. this matter.

I think it must be intended - with the increasing popularity of vinyl, downloads and streaming, 'CD' doesn't cover it. I never accepted the need to change the programme's name previously anyway - CDs are still 'records'.

I note that the new title is also used online for 9th.

Looks like a change of Forum board title is going to be called for early in 2016!

              I like it.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
              Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

How about calling the Saturday morning show

                  'Andrew McGregor's Music'?

It has a ring to it!

I'm glad CDs and vinyl are still very much with us - somehow "Download Review" wouldn't quite do it for me.

The guys on the world music forum cracked this problem some time ago.

One thing which Gramophone magazine got right was to keep to the original title through all the changes in technology.
