There was an article in The Independent on 18 Sept 1998 by Bayan Northcott. I don't know how to do links but he wrote 'So farewell then, Record Review..... Richard Osborne, Anthony Burton and Jonathan Swain...... have been sacked. .... Instead we have CD review, fronted by the single bland persona of Andrew McGregor, fresh from On Air.'
Hope that helps.

Hope it didn't ruin anybody's day.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

So Composer of the Week as well and, eventually, Discovering Music both went that way and I think were better when they had a variety of approaches. That has nothing to do with disapproval of any presenter who does act as the single 'host'.
Programmes that didn't go for one presenter had two, alternating. But the idea behind it seems to have been establishing the presenters as essential to the familiar programme 'brand' - and in some cases it reflected changes within the programmes. In other words, presenters were 'promoted'.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It also looks as if in John Lade's day RR was only an hour long … ? When did it change to 3+ hours? It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
