What is so irritating about these statistics is that they rarely, as here, distinguish between different genres of music. Classical sales, with which we are all mainly concerned, hold up far, far better than for pop. If the overall figures, quoted, are reasonably encouraging, how much better that must be for classical CD's.

OK I'm flush with money at the moment so I bought Mrs W a 2-year old Peugeot. The phone/Bluetooth technology is a bit baffling - BUT worst of all it DOESN'T have a CD player ! ������

So, options 1. Buy every fave music from iTunes 2. Convert her CDs to MP3, buy an MP3 player, plug it into car's USB port. 3. Use phone/Bluetooth to listen to music on YouTube

Any other options?

Don't know the car, but the USB option sounds sensible (Cloughie). That assumes that there's some form of hardware player built into the car.

There's probably an AUX input somewhere too (physical sockets, probably in a glove compartment) so if you have a portable device (phone, iPod, MP3 player etc.) you should be able to wire that in - using real wire! Some cars do Bluetooth audio, but older ones may only do Bluetooth for phones, but not audio.

Avoid those devices which spend a signal to your FM radio unless there's no other way.

Would be good to know how you get on.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Nothing in the glove compartment. In the central console as well the USB connection there is an AUX Jack. She just wants to play her CDs (without the need to convert tracks to mp3) I will look for a portable CD player that can connect in the AUX.

Well, for a temporary solution I thought I would experiment. I got one of her CDs onto my PC, recorded a few tracks using Audacity, saved as both wav and mp3. I put those onto to a spare memory stick.

In her car I inserted the memory stick into the USB on the central console - it played the mp3 tracks.

Yes, Mrs W is delighted and says the ideal solution is for all her fave CDs to be transferred as mp3's onto a stick(s). They will be so much more convenient than a pile of CDs and a CD player cluttering the car!

I simply download to media player and sync to memory stick - quality adequate for car player.
