    The CD lives on

Reports of the demise of the CD may have been premature. The corpse is twitching, at least. Report here.

Seems reasonable. I use Spotify to screen many discs and no longer make as many impulse purchases as I formerly had.

I do the same thing with Spotify. It seems like a reasonable tactic, as if I like something, I buy it.

I seriously doubt if I'll ever be reconciled to downloads.

I can't be bothered at the moment getting the right gear together to make the streaming sound as good as a CD played though an amp and a good pair of speakers.... and I have a fair few CDs to get through.

It will be interesting to see what happens to downloads as streaming picks up. I think that they are competing for the same market. Those of us who don't like downloads continue to buy physical media, and many early download adopters are equally happy with streaming

Streaming works for me and I rarely buy a CD now, a radical shift in behaviour given my lifelong addiction to collecting records.

I actually increased my CD collection considerably in recent months - at 200+ classical discs still an infant, compared to others here, but I prefer them to downloads and streaming. I've had some devastating incidents of loosing data by hardware failure - if a CD breaks down, thats 70 Minutes of music lost. If a 3 TB external hard drive fails, however ... As for streaming, I like to own what I like, and I generally have little trust in companies providing a service I like as long as I like.

                  Absolutely.

Plus, you can't get in from a long day at work and find a nice shiny download on your door mat .
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Try telling that to my neighbours' cat!

(But total agreement with Demetrius, Roehre and yourself - CDs, cases: shelves and shelves of them - utter bliss and complete walton.)

Another difference being, you can polish a CD !
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Particularly one that has cost you very little plus p&p - and that feeling of gain when you find that ultimate bargain on the charity shop shelf.

                          well quite.

indeed, they have special little machines for the purpose.

but not yet for the cat issue.......

you'd expect such a thing to be advertised on those tv monitor ads on the aisle ends in supermarkets...with a cheesy name.....
not hard to Rhyme something with " Kitty"......

I usually try to switch them off.
