I have to admit I did a double-take at "Chaikky". My first thought was that it was a reference to the two adversarial birthday boys.

Delighted to see a couple of our local charity shops have opened!

Someone was obviously having a clear out of Harp discs and I picked up five. Also, a Craig Ogden guitar recital as well as a young Louis Lorte Chopin Studies cd for Chandos with got an excellent review in Gramophone in 1984!

Last night - forgot to check online for recordings of Brahms's Serenades.
This morning - decided, on a whim, to get the bus to Woodbridge.
Time to spare before lunch following walk round the town - pop into British Heart Foundation shop - 1st CD i see .....Not a top-drawer recording, but well worth £1. A bit spooky!

Could be Chailly? How did you find his LvB set, Cloughie?

Westdeutsche Sinfonia conducted by Dirk Joeres (Alto ALC 1098)
I've discovered that it was actually a Gramophone 'Best Buy' and an 'excellent bargain' according to the Penguin Guide.

Happens, with charity shops. I remember my surprise and joy at finding what the case claimed to be the original CD version of Niquet's recording of Handel's Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks. Trouble was the disc inside was a Naxos recording of the same works by Capella Istropolitana under Bohdan Warchal.

                          Very different tuning systems!

Yes - in the pawn shop where many of my stolen CDs ended up, they were selling in some cases (my) empty CD cases!

Don’t think I’ve ever heard Previn’s LSO Planets; well regarded in the Penguin Guide I recall

It' OK - there are 'better' versions available!

I've never trusted the PG - but then I don't really hold by critics, anyway!
