Recently acquired for £1.99 the complete Prokofiev piano concertos on 2 CDs Bronfman/IPO/Mehta. Snapped up on account of my devotion to Bronfman, who is an occasional visitor to these shores, but for whose musical integrity & instincts I have the highest regard.
Hmmm -- 1st concerto rather underwhelming & lacking in the "enfant terrible" element which so shocked SP's Conservatoire judges -- not savage enough, & sounding rather like Poulenc..The rest, though, wonderful, especially the neglected 4th & 5th.

A reasonably productive tour round Truro yesterday before a committee meeting for Truro 3 Arts, planning its next two seasons https://www.truro3arts.co.uk/

                McCreesh's Archiv Messiah, 99p
Leningrad/ Mravinsky, Tchaik Francesca da Rimini/ Nutcracker suite (Leningrad Masters), 99p, playing now
And at slightly more elevated Oxfam prices
Liszt Annees de pelerinage (Lazar Berman/ DG)
                Hilliard/ Garbarek Officium
Alison Balsom Seraph (MacMillan, Takemitsu, Arutiunian, Zimmerman)

Plus the old Melodiya/HMV LP of Kondrashin's Shoster 9th and Execution of Stepan Razin, the latter apparently not on CD(?).

                Ah well, that's another month's charity-giving over!

And a few days ago I spotted this in Liskeard for 99p:

Already on my shelves but a quick message to a friend saw it duly snapped up!

Oh yes, was almost tempted to buy a very down-market LP proudly announcing on front of sleeve Brahm's Hungarian Dances(sic). Would that be Johanna Brahm?
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

Elgar Symphonies: No. 1 Barbiriolli/Philharmonia, No. 2 Barbirolli/Halle plus Serenade Del Mar/Bournemouth SO and In the South Silvestri/Bournemouth SO. I've already listened to the Elgar 1st and it's gone straight to the top of my list of favourites alongside Boult's BBC MM Proms performance, EMI Classics 'twofer' - £1.99
Also, a nice DH Classikon compilation: Britten Serenade Tear/Chicago/Giulini (I didn't know Tear had recorded it more than once), plus Barenboim/ECO: Delius, RVW 'Greensleeves' Fantasia and a beautifully played and recorded 'Lark' Ascending with Pinchas Zukerman. 49p.

Barbirolli did several versions of Elgar Symphony 1. Some may be better than others, but as I recall the one you have is superb.

Recorded August 1962 - it really is special. The recording of the 2nd symphony dates from 1964.

                              Beethoven symphonies 5 and 7 - VPO/Kleiber (a DG Original) - well worth £1, I reckon!

I reckon so too, but there is a body of opinion that might tell you to think of it as 99p for the 5th and 1p for the 7th

I've never been quite sure why!
