Not exactly from a charity shop but yesterday in Haworth, I bought a copy of Martha Argerich's Debut recital on DG for £3.50 from a second hand book shop. I've heard her Liszt Sonata and 6th Hungarian Rhapsody from this disc and the Prokofiev Toccata but the rest is new to me!
          Best regards,
          Jonathan

Venables, by any chance? No doubt a lovely, warm Yorkshire welcome from the owner?

Popped into a Relate Furniture Shop today - and it turned out they had some CDs and books.

I left, having been relieved of fifty new pence, to take away the Tennesstedt/BPO recording of Bruckner 8/Bach VC1 on Tesatment.

Bohuslav Martinu. 'The Opening of the Wells'. 'The Legend of the Smoke From Potato Fires' & 'Mikeš of the Mountains'.

Very chuffed to get this although not without some angst! There it was, sitting amongst the usual outdated pop CDs in its double box. 'Wow, here's a find', I thought. However, when I opened the 'fat box' there was only one disc. Cue much gnashing of teeth as I cursed someone's carelessness for losing a cd. However, once I'd stopped howling, I looked at the contents and timings on the back only to discover that each work only lasts about 20 minutes so the entire programme IS contained on one cd. So I'm not sure why SUPRAPHON issued it in a double case.

Anyway, Mrs. PG is now translating the Czech narration for me!

Yes, it has. The original Czech and the English translation. The disc was released in 1989 so, possibly, the booklet wouldn't have fitted an early cd case.

                          Thanks for that.

I bought the Dutoit - Ravel:L’enfant et les sortileges and it came in a small box to accommodate the book!

Beggur! The Medea is missing disc 1! - still, this remastering has a lot better sound quality than my previous version: the deep fat fryers have been tamed, and if the sound is rather boxy as a result, there's still a great deal more detail coming through than I've heard before.

(And the Maid of Orleans set has an extra CD included, of excerpts from the opera from another company. Rings & Soundabouts!)
