There is no mention of the drop-out problem.
My confusion: see my revised post!
Hope Bryn might pinpoint the problem.
The sleeve says 'recorded live'; I wonder if it was transmitted and if Bryn has a copy of the broadcast to check if it suffered too.

I have ripped this 'new' copy and will listen to it on headphones while travelling to iklectik this afternoon.

Damn it. I could not wait. Having opened up the rip in Sound Forge and could see no sign of the drop-out, so dug out my original copies (that which came with the cover disc and the replacement I received when I complained, both of which have the drop-out at 7'45" into the 1st movement). I have now triple-checked. The original copies both have the very clear drop-out. This 'new' copy from the charity shop does not. Hurrah!. If anyone would like a FLAC of that 1st movement sans drop-out, PM me. The acoustic of Liverpool Cathedral (as against Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral) comes across beautifully.

Quick listen, Mac speakers, iTunes (original cover CD), and nothing untoward spotted around there.
          Might listen more closely later.
Glad you've got a decent copy, Bryn, and I agree with your comment about the acoustic.

Sutherland/Pavarotti Operatic Duets £1 - enlivened a long journey home from Suffolk.

I guess just about every journey home from Suffolk is going to be long. I hope you enjoyed your time in our wonderful county!

I have been rather disappointed on first hearing by the 1970s Ashkenazy/Solti set of the Beethoven Piano Concertos . It is from 1989 so maybe they have been remastered since . Some of Ashkenazy’s playing is a bit romantic for my tastes especially in the Second and Fifth Concertos though the latter has a lovely account of the Finale . Solti on the other hand is in places very brusque and insensitive and the Fourth does not seem to come off at all. I like the First and the Third is pretty good too but a curate’s egg for me but it cost £2.50

Mozart Symphonies 40 and 41, VPO Bernstein, DG. Gosh, I enjoyed this! Why don't I have more Bernstein recordings, I ask myself. I suppose 'it's not how we perform Mozart anymore...etc', but, though I do enjoy HIPP performances, I am sufficiently unreconstructed to enjoy this more. The VPO on top form! What could be better? (Yes, of course, I know, all those men...)

I adore those DG VPO/Bernstein Mozart recordings - by some distance my favourite "modern" instrument performances of these works - dramatic, lithe, exciting, and all repeats observed - much, much better than some HIPP recordings I've heard.

Picked up Colin Davis' recording of Der Freischutz yesterday - pushing the boat out at £2.50!

This recording is not widely known:I was a bit shocked at how slowly he takes the Landler in Act 1.

Yes, I was surprised, and really pleased, that he did the repeats: one of those occasions when you really want to hear them!

The first time I heard the Prague with that second-half repeat in the Finale, I nearly leapt out of my seat!

Ha - completed a set today!!!

As a student in the 70s I bought a Saga LP of Faure piano music played by one Albert Ferber, Vol 2, and liked it a lot. Never clapped eyes on a copy of Vol 1 till today in BHF Liskeard. Immediately snapped it up along with three other decent LPs: the Decca coupling of Franck vln sonata and Brahms Horn Trio (Ashkenazy/ Perlman/ Tuckwell) and two EMI/ DHMs from Camerata Koln, Telemann trio sonatas and Vivaldi wind chamber music. £4 the lot

And earlier in the day in Bodmin, a slightly less esoteric CD (Naxos, Buffalo PO/ Falleta) of Copland - a couple of items (Prairie Journal and Letter from Home) to add to the collection without need to mention Rodeo or The Red Pony

Keep this strictly confidential please: Mrs LMP thinks I was hunting down organic pasta sauce!
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!
