Victoria Mullova playing the Vivaldi 4 Seasons with her then squeeze, Claudio Abbado. The latest 'Dad's Army' movie and Gregory Sokolof playing Brahms.

A pound for the lot in the Ca Research Shop in North Berwick.

Havergal Brian, Symphonies 10 & 21, played by the Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra, bless 'em.

No doubt lately demised Dad's carefully cherished Unicorn LP, perfectly preserved with nary a hiss or pop, and taken to charity shop by his offspring clearing out all the junk.

      20p.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

The only charity shop close to me is a "distribution centre". They do sell stuff, but distribute all the good novels and classical CDs elsewhere :(

Our local Oxfam shop became an online-only operation which itself closed after a year or so. Luckily, we have plenty of other charity shops - which is a good thing, I would say, if only because otherwise the High Street would look even more depressing than it has already become. Our (reportedly profitable) local M&S is to close in 9 weeks' time despite the collection of some 8000 signatures (that's almost a third of the population of the town) on a petition.

Why close a profitable store? Maybe it's due to Warehouses being closed:

"M&S has already announced that it is closing its warehouses in Neasden and Warrington, ... the Castle Donington warehouse was under review."

Picked up three more of late demised Dad's LPs, marked neatly with their 'catalogue number'. Only drawback was that, talking the chap in charge, he said all albums were £1 and the 20p label was not theirs. I said, in that case I was very happy to pay the pound for it; also £1 each for:

LvB Missa Solemnis (2 records): Janowitz, Ludwig, Wunderlich, Berry w. HvK & the Berliner Philharmoniker

Stamitz, Purcell, Geminiani; JC Bach, Vivaldi, Handel w Hogwood & the AAM

Thomas Morley, Ayres & Madrigals w A Rooley & the Consort of Musicke

Oh dear! We have a BHF shop in Newington in Edinburgh which is a very student area. Their cd section has always been very reasonably priced so you can imagine my horror to see that CDs that were normally 99p or £1.99 are now £3.99! Some double albums are actually priced at £9.99! However, there were two CDs in a glass case of a Bach compilation cd and a Regis Maria Callas cd that were...£50.00!!

I asked the girl behind the till about those completely outrageous prices only to be told that at least two people before me had asked the same thing! Apparently, the manager feels that since 'classical music' is a niche market it should be priced accordingly!

I wonder if said manager has visited the nearby Oxfam shop where the prices are...exotic and decided to follow suit! I hope not since this BHF has been a real source of bargains for me.

I hope you suggested that she fed back to said manager that at those prices they were still his!

I got the impression the sales assistant agreed with me but I hope that the lack of sales will speak for themselves!

The complete cycle of Tchaikovsky Symphonies plus the Tone Poems and the Serenade for Strings.

The USSR Symphony Orchestra conducted by Evgeny Svetlanov. Melodyia label.

6 CDs for £4.50 in the Red Cross shop. (Buy one - get one free).

Listening to No.4 just now. Sound a little dated but terrific playing.

Oh, congratulations, pasto - Svetlanov was a fantastic conductor.

Intriguing МЕЛОДИЯ LP double album, sleeve bearing the title "Contemporary English Music" (State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR). Opening at the wrong side I was thrown by a composer listed as Алан Роусторн. Алан Буш a bit easier.

£1, but I gave them £2 as there were two LPs and it was for a homeless charity (I think).

Oddly I found Алан Буш a bit harder. What was on the discs anyway?
