At best only the usual depressing profusion of Bony M, 'NOW That's What I Call Music' series, Richard Clayderman and James Last.

Remind me of your neck of the woods. Sometimes, you need to get out of your catchment area to discover the good stuff. That said, I live in a cultural backwater and have picked up some amazing finds locally.

Don't they have a classical section with the three tenors, Hayley Westenra, Andrea Bocelli, Katherine Jenkins, Beethoven's greatest hits etc.

Let alone the old free Gramophone cover discs being offered at £2 each.

How many of those did they produce? Every charity shop in the country has at least one.

Every charity shop seems to be well-supplied with Bryn Terfels's wrteched crossover discs. Presumably given as unwatned presents to grandmothers throughout the land (mine threw the copy I bought her in my face and told me to part-exchange it for her tenth recording of Gurrelieder!).

Other perennials:: Orchestra! (Dudley Moore and Sir Georg Solti), Your Hundred Best Tunes and Nige's Four Seaons

I've picked up some pretty decent BBC Music Magazine CDs (and one DVD) from charity shops, most recently Boult's Elgar 1st from the 1976 Proms.

[QUOTE=Conchis;673437]Every charity shop seems to be well-supplied with Bryn Terfels's wrteched crossover discs.
Many's the time I've passed over Bryn Terfel but I've just thought are any of them actually worth a 50p punt?
Do any have any hidden gems? Some perennials worth looking for imho are the Orbis Musicals collections.
I picked up A Little Night Music, Orpheus in the Underworld and Candide from them.
I am a habitual dweller in charity shops and over the years some of the gems have been:
                          Aida Solti
                          Marriage of Figaro Giulini
The Damnation of Faust Colin Davis
                          Songs from Liquid Days Glass
                          Koyaanisqatsi Glass
and surprisingly good Folk cd's from
                          Brian Peters and Gordon Tyrrall
                          John Dipper Band
                          Martin Stimson
Everyone 50p, you don't get much ambitious pricing in Hull outside Oxfam.

Well I've just seen Bobby Ball this morning and he was looking dead miserable. The previous time I saw him he was on tiptoes chucking oranges up into the juicer at out local Booths supermarket. Rock on Tommy!
