Am totally delighted with this unexpected £8 purchase. Tazza plays well without really dominating, I rather like that, while Martin R plays quite superbly, the most underrated Beethovenian of our day!!
I picked up Sir Simon's Stravinsky cd with Die Berliner Philharmoniker on EMI for a pound today. Alas, there is a tiny scratch that causes a momentary 'blip' for 2 seconds at the link between the second and third movements of the 'Symphony in Threes Movements'. No big deal but I do wonder why people find it so difficult to take care of their CDs.
I also picked up a Fleetwood Mac cd, 'Tango in the Night', which is frankly scratched to hell! (Also a £). However, it plays with no problem at all.

I bought a Frank Zappa CD in December which looked fine but skips hopelessly on the opening track. I've tried washing it but to no avail. By contrast, the Mahler set I bought last week looked scrateched to buggery but plays fine!
Last night I dsicovered that the Bruckner double CD set I bought a couple of days ago (see above) does indeed contain two discs - both of the same symphony! So: two Bruckner 5s, no Bruckner 7.
But they were originally marketed as basically indestructible.
Well, the instructions in the box states that ' In storing and handling the Compact Disc, you should apply the same care as with conventional records...' They do stand up to a lot of poor treatment but they do have limits.
Using them in the car machine can be fraught with hazards!
I think a lot depends on the depth of the scratchs.

Is that one that should have Ormandy 5 and Walter 7? Caveat emptor in shopum charitium!

Exactly!
Although I should say that, over MANY years, I've bought literally thousands of CDs from eBay and charity shops and had only one or two duds in that time. However, this last year has brought at least a dozen CDs that are duff. Some have been easy to fix but there have been maybe 3 or 4 that have had to be binned.

Me too...and let's face it at the usual current asking prices usually worth risking.

Nope - both Welser-Most on EMI.
I checked that the two discs were in place before purchase but didn't think to check WHICH two discs were in place. For only a quid, though, I can hardly complain.

You'll probably in due course find one with 2 copies of the 7th. How foes FW-M fare as a Brucknerian?
