This has been spun a lot recently:

Wonderful (as is the new DSCH 15 - thanks, all, for the recommendation)

Sounds very tempting - I love the Haitink/Concertgebouw Debussy recordings from the same time.

Some months ago I acquired Haitink's Lso Live Beethoven cycle (hybrid SACDs). Now a much loved set. It can be had for a steal at £9.99 (plus 1.26 postage) from Harmonia Mundi's marketplace site on Amazon.

This concert remains a vivid memory and the first half, which featured Clifford Curzon in Mozart PC 24, has already appeared on BBC Legends.

Haitink's DSCH 8 was the first 8 I ever owned and occupies a special place for me.

Another voice for that Newton reissue - it's a special set and the Concertgebouw is .

I'd be surprised if he didn't! I recall that I had the choice of two Haitink concerts to go to that week, the other one being the Shostakovich 7 and I chose the Mozart PC24/Ravel Daphnis concert and I've never heard a more thrilling Daphnis before or since. It was also the only occasion I saw Clifford Curzon. My diary tells me it was November 6 1979 and was, I think, something like the 4th or 5th time I'd seen Haitink.

Very many thanks to Alison for bringing this release to my attention. It's a long time since I've felt so excited about a CD issue!

Your diary is spot on, Petrushka!

Yes, I enjoyed it. V interesting to compare to Haitink's studio account (Boston) and the more recent live recording (Chicago). I also used Gergiev, Monteux and Ansermet as comparisons.

There is an excerpt available on the LPO website though I shall wait to hear the whole work.

Something he was (sometimes) prone to do. I remember him doing it at the RFH in Elgar's P & C March No. 5.

With the Philharmonia alongside the Cello Comcerto & the Second Symphony in 1984? I was at that one but can't remember him going airborne. I managed to worm my way into the rehearsal that morning and took several photos. Would I get away with that now, I wonder?
